Roland has been particularly busy sourcing ingredients and developing the new menu which can be found on our new website.
The team at The Matterhorn are looking forward to welcoming all of our family and friends, old and new, back into the restaurant on the 12th October (subject to NSW Govt restrictions).
Our Story—
Roland is the heart and soul of the kitchen at The Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant in Turramurra. Born in St Gallen Switzerland, Roland grew up in a family home where the smell of freshly baked zopf wafted through the house on a Sunday morning.
It was in this home, where the value of sharing meals with friends nurtured inspiration that led Roland to become a chef and share his passion and culture for his country of birth.Roland trained as a classical chef at The Hotel Montana in Lucerne, Switzerland.
After completion, Roland worked in several five-star hotels in Switzerland before eventually moving to the United Kingdom to develop his English, culinary skills and start his adventure.
In the UK, Roland cooked at several top restaurants before deciding to move to Sydney 35 years ago.After successfully opening and operating a variety of food businesses over several years, Roland decided to take a leap of faith to follow his dream of opening a Swiss restaurant in Sydney to bring the food and culture from his homeland down under.
Last year (2020), after finding the ideal location, and as Sydney came out of its first lockdown, The Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant in Turramurra was born. Already in a very short time, The Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant has become the place where Roland can create, cook and interact with his diners and finally live out his lifelong ambition to bring a little bit of Switzerland to Australia!
